Romance Studies

Learning Outcomes

Romance Studies Majors demonstrate advanced reading, written, and oral competence in two Romance languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, or Italian).  Students recognize major figures and debates in the cultural production of the two target languages. Students compare and analyze the linguistic and stylistic forms of Peninsular, Latin American, and US Latinx literary texts, films, visual art, and other modes of creative and critical discourse. They also make comparisons and analyses between works in the primary and secondary languages and cultures. Students conduct research in literary, historical, and critical topics related to the Spanish-speaking world using primary and secondary sources. They also integrate primary and secondary sources in the secondary language.
