Mural Project Dartmouth Organic Farm

This past spring term Professor Douglas Moody led a group of students from his LATS 37 course, "Migrant Lives and Labor in the Upper Valley," in the creation of a public mural that has been installed at the Dartmouth Organic Farm. Professor Moody also taught a section of Spanish 7, "Transforming Public Space: Mural Art in Mexico and the United States," and the Spanish 7 students also visited the Organic Farm and participated in painting the mural. At the end of the spring term, two professional artists, Ernesto Cuevas '98 and Marina Massidda '17, were invited to Dartmouth to participate in a four-day intensive mural painting workshop and the two mural artists added their wonderful talents and vision to the mural. The mural project was supported by the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL) and an Experiential Learning Initiative grant, by the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies (LALACS) Program, the Leslie Center for the Humanities, the Rockefeller Center, and by the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. Professor Moody hopes that many students, faculty, alumni, and community members, who visit or work at the Dartmouth Organic Farm in the coming years will be inspired by the mural, which celebrates the crucial importance of labor in agriculture and in the dairy industry in the Upper Valley.
