Who is eligible?

Students in courses numbered 9 or above (e.g. Spanish 9, Portuguese 20)

Returning LSA/LSA+/FSP students

Majors and minors in Hispanic, Romance and Lusophone Studies

Dartmouth students with demonstrable proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese (e.g. students who placed out of the language requirement, native and heritage speakers)

When is the training taking place?

Wednesday January 3

6:00-7:00pm Orientation (Dartmouth Hall 105)

Mandatory for ALL NEW candidates

7:00-9:00PM Practice (Dartmouth Hall 102)

Thursday January 4

6:00-8:00pm Practice (Dartmouth Hall 102)

Friday January 5

6:00-8:00pm Practice (Dartmouth Hall 102)

Monday January 8

4:00pm Selection (Dartmouth Hall 102)

Returning and Veteran Apprentice Teachers are excused from Orientation. They are however, required to come to all practice sessions to assist in the training of new candidates.

What's involved in working as a drill instructor?

You will teach 3 times a week (MWF) at one the following times: 7:45am, 2:10pm, or 5:35pm.

Payment starts at $10.50 per hour. (Preparation time is also paid at the rate of one hour per period taught, i.e. if you teach 3 hours a week, you will be paid for 3 hours of teaching and 3 hours of prep time).
