Congratulations to Assistant Professor Ingrid Brioso Rieumont, who has been awarded a 2026 Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society in support of her book project. The American Philosophical Society, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1743, is the oldest learned soiety in the United States. Each grant cycle brings together some of the most thoughtful and exciting contemporary scholars in philosophy and the humanities in the country. Brioso-Rieumont will research the collapse between metaphysics and positivism in nineteenth-century Cuba and Brazil. Her project examines how slaveholders used absolute metaphysical claims to justify slavery.
Congratulations to Our Very Own Assistant Professor Brioso Rieumont!
