The Department of Spanish and Portuguese is pleased to announce a lecture by Carleton College Professor Dr. Palmar Álvarez-Blanco, who will present “Conocimiento público y acción ciudadana: prácticas de Humanidades Públicas en acción.” Álvarez-Blanco holds an MA from Villanova University and a PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder, and is co-founder of ALCESXXI, an international association dedicated to critical and public-facing research and cultural intervention.
Their work as a cultural researcher examines the historical crises of capitalism while documenting transitions toward commons-based systems, a focus reflected in her project The Constellation of the Commons, a living open archive and cartography initiative. As Broom Fellow for Public Scholarship at Carleton, they launched key initiatives including the Media Library for Public Scholarship and the Day of Public Scholarship, expanding the visibility and impact of publicly engaged academic work.
Their research centers on contemporary cultural production, especially the crises and transformations of capitalism and the emergence of commons-based alternatives. A key project is The Constellation of the Commons, an open-access archive documenting collaborative and community-based practices.
