Basic Language Programs and the Engaged Humanities: Building Foundational Knowledge, Dispositions and Practices

Professor Abbott is Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies. Her work focuses on student learning outcomes in, as well as critical analysis of, foreign language community service learning, social entrepreneurship, social media and languages for specific purposes. She creates curricular materials that reflect current research in all these areas. She is the author of two textbooks, Día a día: desde lo personal a lo profesional (2015), and Comunidades: Más allá del aula (2010), which is the referent for teaching community-oriented Spanish courses.
